The new Spike Jonze live-action retelling of the well known children's book "Where the Wild Things Are" is currently in post-production and slotted to release October 19th, 2009. The fantasy children's book seems exactly the place for Jonze's directing style which has recently been limited to music videos, particularly with the band Weezer.

Spike Jonze's "Where the Wild Things Are" is an adaptation of Maurice Sendak's classic children's story, where Max, a disobedient little boy sent to bed without his supper, creates his own world--a forest inhabited by ferocious wild creatures that crown Max as their ruler.

One single clip of the movie has leaked and if these sketchy beginnings are any indicator, this movie is going to be good! The clip though is simply a test-drive and Jonze released a statement that explained it's definitely not the final project.

“that was a very early test with the sole purpose of just getting some footage to Ben our vfx (visual effects) supervisor to see if our vfx plan for the faces would work. The clip doesn’t look or feel anything like the movie, the Wild Thing suit is a very early cringy prototype, and the boy is a friend of ours Griffin who we had used in a Yeah Yeah Yeahs video we shot a few weeks before. We love him, but he is not in the actually film...Oh and that is not a wolf suit, its a lamb suit we bought on the internet. Talk to you later...“ - Spike Jonze

The film stars Catherine Keener, Benicio Del Toro, Forest Whitaker, Lauren Ambrose, Catherine O’Hara, Tom Noonan, Michael Berry, Paul Dano and James Gandolfini.

I am so excited for this. Jonze and Sendak are a perfect match.
