"Splitscreen: A Love Story" Wins Nokia Shorts 2011 movie contest
Budding filmmaker JW Griffiths proved that you don't need a big budget to make a good movie. His short film "Splitscreen: A Love Story" took top prize at the 2011 Nokia Shorts mini-movie contest, earning him $10,000.
Nokia challenged filmmakers to make a short movie shot entirely on their cell phone.
With a little creativity, contestants made short film for next to nothing. "Spiltscreen" uses imaginative cinematography to tell the story of two travelers taking the same journey and finding each other halfway around the world. The movie is charming yet inventive.
Nokia teamed up with Vimeo to narrow down 600 entries that Vimeo blogged to eight finalist. Though Griffiths was the winner, the remaining finalists received $5,000 in prize money.
JW Griffiths shot the entire movie on his Nokia N8 cellphone in only several weeks, which is quite impressive to say the least. Griffiths shares some of the secrets behind his film on his website.
