Sree Dasari, a contestant from Big Brother who was kicked off earlier this month, was rushed to the hospital after he slit his wrists. Dasari, a student at University of Hertfordshire, was booed when he left Big Brother after being voted off by an 85% majority. The 25 year-old was taken to QEII Hospital to be treated for the lacerations by paramedics called to his room at the university.

The student union president, who was widely disliked by viewers, is understood to have been watching an episode of the show when he became upset.

Channel 4 was made aware of the incident but continued with plans to include Dasari in an episode of spin-off show Big Brother's Big Mouth on Friday night. He appeared wearing a long-sleeved shirt and jacket.

A spokesman said that it has made a psychologist available to Dasari, who was ridiculed for his attempts at wooing fellow housemate Noirin Kelly and voted off the show with an 85 per cent majority.

"Housemates' welfare is of paramount importance,” a spokesman said.

The incident calls to mind Susan Boyle's breakdown after she came in second place in Britan's Got Talent and the affects of reality television on participants transitioning back to true reality.

The tenth season Big Brother has seen a 33% drop in viewers as compared to the previous season, the lowest ratings to date in the series.

It is clear this show has run its course.  Ten years old means it was a product of the last century anyway - the formula is appearing more and more dated.  In recession times we are all more tuned into more caring/sharing priorities - this show belongs in the heady-crazy days of carefree and money-for-all kind of thinking.  Also, it's clear that some of the remaining housemates (not all) are not very stable individuals.  Nothing against any of them, they just clearly are not.

i would of thought that people selected as housemates would undergo a pyschological evaulation, if this is the case then i question the qualifications of the people evaluating as it is clear to see that a small few of the housemates are clearly unstable.  If they don't get evaulated before going in then i think that is totally irresponsible on behalf of big brother, considering these people are locked in a house for what might be months, completely cut off from the outside world.
