As of May 27, 2009, Star Trek is the highest grossing movie of the year with $194.8 million. It beat previous champ, Monsters vs Aliens by $1 million. Of all the May releases, Star Trek has had the best legs. It continues to gross about $2 million every weekday and respectable numbers on weekends as well. But will it last? Tomorrow, Pixar is releasing its latest picture, Up. And in a month, the sequel to Transformers will be released. Either way this is good news for Paramount, the once struggling studio, who also had a #1 movie last May with Iron Man. It's also good news for the Star Trek franchise which has struggled to connect to the general public since the fourth installment in 1986.

I have to say, I'm not surprised.

I will have to see it. I can not see where they have struggled as a franchise though. They have been rather popular through out the World.
