Starbucks Goes Plenta ... And Micra

On a April Fools' Day rich in online pranks, Starbucks is joining the chase to wow customers with their April Fools' Day wittiness. Fresh off a "real" story about the current testing of a Trenta 31-ounce beverage size at selected Starbucks franchises, the coffee giant decided to really work the cup size angle on April Fools' Day.

In a press release posted on the official Starbucks blog on April 1, the company says it is introducing new trademarked Plenta and Micra cup sizes in the U.S. and Canada starting this fall. Starbucks says it has come up with two new beverage sizes after "a year of research and direct customer feedback."

So What Are Plenta And Micra?

Plenta fits up to 128 oz of liquid, while Micra only fits around 2 oz.

Derived from Italian word for plentiful or small, the Plenta™ delivers coffee lovers record amounts of the world’s finest coffee beverages while the Micra™ delivers a quick and satisfying morsel of goodness.
Recognizing the potential impact the Plenta™ presents for municipal waste collection, Starbucks is also suggesting several subsequent uses for the Plenta™ cup post coffee enjoyment. Suggested usage options include popcorn receptacle, rain hat, perennial planter, lampshade or yoga block. The Micra also serves as a convenient milk dish for kittens, soft boiled egg cup or paper clip holder.

On as scale of 1 to 10, we at NowPublic give this prank a solid 2. After all, the prank made us curious for longer than one second. The photos kind of give it away though. But, why not make this work in real life? There must be a niche for Plenta and Micra out there...
