Latte prices hit yet another high today with coffee consumers now paying an average of $3.75 for a 12 ounce latte at their local Starbucks store. With approximately 448 lattes per barrel, the cost of the frothy concoction hit $1680 a barrel - slightly more than 12 times the price of a barrel of oil.
The price of a grande coffee of the day held steady at $1.85 or approximately $829 a barrel while crude oil prices swung wildly in early trading, hitting a high of $134.75 a barrel.
In other news, the price of convenience store Coca Cola hit $1.39 for a 12 ounce bottle or $623 a barrel, while bottled water peaked at $366 a barrel in early trading.

thx general -
Actually, I was watching CNBC this morning while they were talking about oil prices. Given that I had just filled up my tank and gotten a coffee at Starbucks 15 minutes before, I found it amusing that we make such a big deal about oil prices when, as a society, we are willing to pay 4 bucks for a latte, and 1.25 for a bottle of water.
So I did the math and decided to write about it.
