Starbucks Own Big Gulp: Starbucks 31 Ounce Trenta Rolls Out In All Starbucks By May 3

The Starbucks Trenta, a massive 31 ounce (922 ml) beverage container, will roll out in Starbucks cafes across the USA and Canada by May 35rd the company announced Monday.

That's more than the average capacity of the human stomach, and enough caffeine to stand in for a defibrillator.

But coffee drinkers will not be able to get a hot cup of coffee in the Trenta. The Starbucks Trenta is only for cold beverages.

The new size will be available only for iced coffee, iced tea and iced tea lemonade drinks in the United States.

The Starbucks Trenta is 7 ounces higher than the previous largest size Starbucks cup, The Venti.

Drinks in the Trenta size will cost 50 cents more than similar Venti-sized iced drinks, the company said.

Seattle-based Starbucks tested the new size in several U.S. markets last year, saying it was responding to customer demand for larger cold beverages.

The Trenta size will debut in 14 states, including Virginia, Georgia, Florida, Texas, Hawaii and Arizona, on January 18 and in California on February 1.

Rather than manufacturing a whole new cup, surely it would be better to just add less ice to the existing drinks. Same amount of cold-coffee drink, less raw material requirements.

At my store we were told the Trenta will be for Iced Tea and Iced Coffee only. No Frappucinos, no hot drinks, no lattes or mochas.
