Statue cruises resumes as Statue of Liberty tickets sell again
The Statue Cruises around the Statue of Liberty, New York, have resumed sales after being closed from the September 11th attacks.
People can once again buy tickets at Statuecruises.com
The ability to visit the top of the crown are also once again open.
People can also call 877-523-9849 for reservations, but they are first come, first served.
The lower pedestal and observation deck of the Statue opened in 2004, but the crown has been closed since 9/11, but now people can go up to the top again and cruise around the harbour to see the Lady of Liberty from the water.
Park officials are responding to a big downturn in visitor numbers: 3.6 million people visited the Statue of Liberty in 2000, but six years later, that number had gone down to 2.5 million.
Crown tickets will cost $3 above the regular Liberty and Ellis islands admission charge, which is $12 for adults. Each customer can reserve up to four tickets and make only one reservation every six months.
For safety reasons, only 30 people per hour will be allowed up the narrow steps leading to the crown.

It's also a great place for picnics on the grounds.

We were on a sunset dinner cruise and I was snapping pictures of the Statue of Liberty against the setting sun. It was a fabulous evening.

Arrive early for the ferry out of Battery Park to Liberty Island. On my first attempt to go to the statue, tickets to get into the pedestal were all given out for the day by 11am. The next day I took and easy trip on the subway to be on the first ferry over at 8am. Once on the island it still took about an hour and a half to get into the pedestal. If you're in New York though, how could you not make the effort? Also, remember that you must have obtained a ticket to get into the pedestal BEFORE getting on the ferry from Battery Park. You cannot obtain this ticket once on Liberty Island.
