Stephanie Edwards: American Idol Contestant Arrested for Fighting
Former American Idol Finalist Stephanie Edwards Arrested for Girl Fighting
Stephanie Edwards was a finalist on the sixth season of American Idol in 2007 and she finished in 11th place overall. On Monday March 29th she was arrested in Jackson Park, Savannah for fighting with 20-year-old Laquilla White.
According to the SavannahNow, the fight broke out around 9:40pm in the 800 block of 50th Street and when the police showed up they had to pull the two women apart. Neither were reported to be injured. Stephanie Edwards said that the fight started after she had received a 'few harassing phone calls' but did not state if the phone calls were from White.
Earlier this month Edwards signed on to perform in "Southern Nights" at Savannah Theatre through May 30. One of her shows was scheduled for Wednesday night, said Michael Meece, co-owner and producer.
Meece said that Edwards told him she was going to manage herself in the case and he said he would support her in the hope that she will be able to continue her performances until the end of her contract on May 30th.
It is not uncommon for American Idol contestants to go back to their hometown and perform for a local crowd in the hopes that they will be able to build up their career and fan base that way. Coming 11th place is quite high and Edwards wanted to continue to make music and follow her dreams of stardom.
For now, both women are free, but were taken to jail after the fight and released around midnight.
