It's Stephen Hawking's Birthday. The superstar theoretical physicist Turns 68 today. Happy Birthday, Stephen Hawking! Though Google dropped the ball and didn't do a Google Doodle for either Elvis' birthday or David Bowie's birthday, how could they have missed Stephen hawking's Birthday?

Stephen Hawking, who's actually been into low orbit (and is even coming to Canada), is five years older than Space Oddity David Bowie, though Bowie has recorded more albums. Last year, Stephen Hawking was hospitalized with a chest infection, though he has since recovered.

Stephen Hawking suffers from ALS, a motor neurone disease: he's confined to a wheelchair and communicates via computer. ALS (Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis) is also known as Lou Gehrig's Disease.

Stephen William Hawking was born on 8 January 1942 (300 years after the death of Galileo) in Oxford, England. His parents' house was in north London, but during the second world war, Oxford was considered a safer place to have babies.
