Steve Martin cuts wacky video for Bob Kerrey
Former Nebraska senator Bob Kerrey, who is looking to return to his former post this year, picked up a wacky endorsement Friday -- from comedian, actor, banjo player and author Steve Martin.
In a quirky new Web video, Martin sits at a table and explains that he is now a home crafts guru, and he will demonstrate how to make a wad of paper. He piles "supplies" on the table top -- paperclips, scissors, a stapler, chewing gum, a hammer -- and proceeds to conduct an elaborate demonstration of folding and mutilating a piece of paper.
Meanwhile a hand emerges from the right of the screen holding pieces of paper printed like cue cards with Martin's endorsement of Kerrey.
The papers say "My friend, Bob Kerrey, is running for the US Senate in Nebraska. He is a principled man whom I have known and respected for many years. Whether you are a Democrat or a Republican he deserves your vote, because . . . he cares about the people of Nebraska . . . he considers both sides of every issue to determine what is best . . . and, he has already served Nebraska successfully as your governor and senator for 16 years. But most of all . . . He is sane. And his ideas are workable."
