Despite many years of fans' hopes and prayers that legendary British pop band The Stone Roses will reunite for a proper tour, it now appears that the latest reunion rumour may not, in fact, be quite as it seems.

The Daily Mirror ran a story this week claiming that the Roses would be announcing "a 21 date UK tour" in 2009 — along with an appearance at the lauded Coachella music festival in California.

Alas, no one from the band's camp has confirmed this claim.

Nevertheless, there's still a new Ian Brown solo record due out later in 2009 to look forward to.

The perennial ‘will they or won’t they’ conversation on whether the Stone Roses will ever get back together took a new turn yesterday when the UK edition of the Daily Mirror ran a story claiming that the band were set to announce a 21 date UK tour plus Coachella appearance.

Both John Squire and Ian Brown however were quick to distance themselves from any such rumours. Squire has a major art exhibition opening this summer, and is said to be concentrating on this aspect of his career more than his guitar playing.

Ian Brown’s publicist meanwhile, commented that “we know nothing about a reunion, Ian is working on his new studio album which is due out later this year.”
