Superstar actress Meryl Streep says she's proud to be old and wants Hollywood to embrace older actresses and actors to make films that appeal to the whole family like the hugely successful Mamma Mia! that Streep stars in.

Streep believes that too many films are aimed at audience of 'young and dating' women and men in general.

Streep's been pushing this theme in recent radio and TV interviews in the UK where she is revered almost as an honarary Brit in terms of the public's affection for her and she makes these comments in a far reaching interview in the Radio Times which hit the stands today.

Streep, who will turn 60 in June, told the Radio Times that studios have been stuck in a rut of making movies to appeal to men and younger women who are dating.

"I think with the success of a few big pictures like Mamma Mia! addressing an audience that, never mind being neglected, have been disdained in the boardrooms, there will be other films that target that audience," she said.

"Mamma Mia! is that rare thing you can enjoy with your mother or your child, and its aim is only to make you happy."

The adaptation of the West End show based on Abba songs was last year's biggest box office hit in the UK, pulling in more than £69 million.

Streep said her daughters had helped her to stop worrying about her appearance over the years.

"I wasted so many years thinking I wasn't pretty enough and why didn't I have Jessica Lange's body or someone else's legs? What a waste of time," she told the magazine.

I loved Streep's comment when she won at the SAG awards -- "I didn't even buy a dress!" Good for her on that one, too.

Mama Mia! is a family picture?? Isn't it about a mother who sleeps with several men and doesn't even know which man is her child's father?? WOW. Don't see how that is a wholesome, family film.
