Street Performance World Championships

This past weekend the 2008 Street Performance World Championships took place in Merrion Square, Dublin. The event took place over 3 days and included 120 free shows that were staged throughout the park. The exciting and unique championships attracted performers from all around the globe: Japan, USA, Spain, Australia, Belgium, Zimbabwe, Russia and Ireland. The performers dedicate their lives to their art forms, relying on their audience to make a living. Last year's champion, the Australian Space Cowboy, was unable to defend his title, placing second overall this year. First place went to the Enlish Gents, one of the best acrobatic acts in the world. All in all, the festivities attracted a great audience and the championships were, once again, a huge success.

The Street Performance World Championships were a great set of events with hours of entertainment. The English Gents put on an excellent show and in my opinion, they deserved their win for such an entertaining show

This was a fantastic and very well organised event. The acts were world class and there was something to suit everyone's tastes. The English Gents were amazing and deserved their win.

Once again, this event proved to be hugely entertaining! In a time when everything seems so expensive, this free event provided a great weekend of family entertainment.

The quality of the acts was of such a high standard & for the most part, the weather held out.

The English Gentlemen were deserving winners, but the Space Cowboy pushed them close. Tumble Circus & the Aerial Angels dominated in the air, as they impressed the large crowds with their strength, agility & humour.
