Stumps

When some trees fall down, they don’t leave a stump as when trees are sawn down or as when they break in two having been blown by wind or struck by lightning. They uproot instead.

When an old tree uproots, it reveals much about its history. It shows the top soil around the tree. It reveals the substance of the Earth that nourished it.

When the ancient Native Americans camped in the woods, they sometimes found relief by sitting with their backs against a tree. The same is true of soldiers who traveled through the woods and sometimes took a break. When they did this, they sometimes lost some of the things they carried with them.

So, when an old tree is uprooted, it is a good place to look for lost treasure.

Archeologists sometimes find pottery, arrow heads, bullets, knives, buttons and other such items in the exposed Earth that once lay beneath the tree.
