Style In Progress 2008 was yesterday in the Queen St. West alleys in Toronto, and from what I saw the event went great! Myself and a few friends got into town nice and early, and got lots of pictures of the first half of the day, and not as many of the second half. I'm planning to return to the alleys pretty soon to get pictures of the finished pieces. Here's a few of my favourites from the shots I took, the rest of which are up in a set on my Flickr.![]()

It was a good day, definitely worth checking out if you can make it next year! I think I might try staying later next year and get pictures of the finished pieces. As it stands now, I think I'm making another trip into Toronto next weekend so I can get the finished work.

Hey, great pictures. Thanks for posting this. I'd like to know more about the event itself - a competition?

No competition, just a celebration of culture.
The area where all the painting was being done is a space that the city allows graffiti writers to hit year round (I believe), and this event was a way to bring the Toronto area graffiti community together for a day of hassle-free painting.
It was interesting to see the people who came through to check it out as well. News crews, police, random people out on the town, and supporters of graffiti were all out admiring the work being put up on the walls.
I believe this is the 5th year they've run Style In Progress, but I only found out about it last year so I'm not sure.
There's some more information up on their official website too: www.styleinprogress.ca

Nice photos!
I didn't realize the alley was even there until I accidentally stumbled upon it while covering a Tibetan rally and march this past Spring.
It was a great surprise. I found myself getting 'carried away' snapping photos of all the art and realized I'd better get back to the protest.

I forget what the circumstances were for me, but I found out about it all completely by accident too.
I was in Toronto for something else entirely the day after last year's event, and just happened to see how painted up the alley was. While I was walking through it, I noticed "styleinprogress.ca" up on some of the walls and decided to check it out.
