Sundance 2010 Film Festival Award Winners
The Sundance Film Festival award winners have been announced now that the 2010 film festival has come to a close. Emcee David Hyde Pierce announced the winners at the Racquet Club in Park City, Utah on Saturday night. In terms of what films will do well during the rest of the year, the Audience Awards given out at the end of the Sundance film festival are often a strong indication of which films will see more widespread success in the coming months. "Waiting For Superman," "happythankyoumoreplease," "Contracorriente," and "Wasteland" are the four Audience Award winners that could likely get more buzz in the next few months.
While these independent film award winners may or may not make it to the big screen, films with a recognizable actor or actress who can be directly attributed to the film almost always do well. Joseph Gordon Levitt and Zooey Deschanel's "(500) Days of Summer" from Sundance 2009 is one such example of this kind of success. This year, Levitt returns with "Hesher" which premiereed at Sundance 2010. RottenTomatoes suggests that films such as Levitt's "Hesher," "Buried" starring Ryan Reynolds, "The Killer Inside Me" with Casey Affleck, and "Splice" with Adrian Brody will all see success post-Sundance. They also make note of one of Kristen Stewart's two submissions - 'Welcome To The Rileys." While her other film "The Runaways" with Dakota Fanning was rumoured for the best buzz, it seems that "Welcome To The Rileys" (also starring James Gandolfini) will be her next indie hit for 2010.
