Alicia Keys sang “The Star-Spangled Banner” before Super Bowl XLVII between the Baltimore Ravens and San Francisco 49ers in New Orleans.

Keys sang the national anthem at a piano placed at midfield.

The 32-year-old star shared her pre-performance ritual with her fans on Twitter this morning, saying: 'Jus finished a beautiful, calming yoga session. My intention is 2 enjoy every piece of this special day! What's urs? (sic)'

Many accomplished musicians have sung the national anthem before the Super Bowl. For the past five Super Bowls, female artists have been the norm with Jordin Sparks, Jennifer Hudson, Carrie Underwood, Christina Aguilera and Kelly Clarkson signing the song.

Keys is the first musician to do play the piano during a Super Bowl national anthem performance since Billy Joel in 2007.

Keys' rendition was powerful and moving -- and she didn't have any problems singing the lyrics as they're written. That's more than can be said for Christina Aguilera, who infamously goofed when she performed the song at the 2011 Super Bowl.

Beyonce will perform the halftime show at Super Bowl XLVII.

The Sandy Hook Elementary School chorus sang "America The Beautiful" before the game with recording artist and actress Jennifer Hudson joining in as well.
