This is something new. Three guys playing video games help raises $11,000 for Child's Play Charity. An estimated 57hours was spent on all 7 Mario games from the old-school 2D Super Mario Brothers  to the latest Super Mario Galaxy. I am surprised how much money was raised over the weekend and how much support they received. There were live video streams to chat rooms and fan arts. These three definitely deserve a roud of applause for 1. completing all 7 Mario Games 2. raising money for a good cause and 3. able to play games for 57hrs straight.

A visit to their site shows a detailed summary of their gaming summaries with the exact time of the start to finish and how many lives was used.

Brian Brinegar, a 29-year-old web developer from Lafayette, Indiana, and two of his avid gamers friends, Dan May and John Groth, decided to get together and play seven Super Mario Brothers games straight through the weekend for a good cause, the Child’s Play Charity.

The trio have been playing the original Super Mario Bro. all the way through to Super Mario Galaxy. Check out the fun while it lasts at Super Mario Marathon; and please give what you can, if you’re apt to do so! To date they’ve already raised over $11,000 for Child’s Play.

The marathon ends Monday, June 30th, but donations will continue to be accepted, so go quickly! Also, you can view a ton of recorded video of the event on on the official Ustream.tv page here.

What is Child's play?

Since 2003, over 100,000 gamers worldwide have banded together through Child’s Play, a community based charity grown and nurtured from the game culture and industry. Over two million dollars in donations of toys, games, books and cash for sick kids in children’s hospitals across North America and the world have been collected since our inception.

This year, we have continued expanding across the country and the globe. With over 45 partner hospitals and more arriving every month, you can be sure to find one from the map above that needs your help! You can choose to purchase requested items from their online retailer wish lists, or make a cash donation that helps out Child’s Play hospitals everywhere. Any items purchased through Amazon will be shipped directly to your hospital of choice, so please be sure to select their shipping address rather than your own.

When gamers give back, it makes a difference!

I never thought by having a mario-athon can raise so much money. At least they are doing it for a good cause
So next time before you pass judgement on gamers and calling them names and insulting them, maybe you should stop and see if they are playing for a good cause and helping others while gaming. Hmm... most likely they are just playing for the entertainment value, but you never know.
