{UPDATE} Susan Boyle [Britain's Got Talent] Admitted To Mental Health Clinic

Britain's got Talent singing sensation Susan Boyle has been admitted to a mental health clinic, apparently suffering from exhaustion.

She finished second to dance troupe Diversity in the Britain's Got Talent finale just last night, but had been showing signs of the pressure for the last week or two.

Although Susan lost the talent competition, it's rumoured that she's been offered a lucrative record deal.

Police were summoned to her hotel and the singer was assessed under the Mental Health Act after she had an 'emotional breakdown' following her shock defeat in the show's final.

But, despite her distress at missing out to dance troupe Diversity, coming second was the best thing that could have happened to her, judge Piers Morgan has declared.

Susan Boyle returns to her hotel after losing to Diversity in the Britain's Got Talent final

Morgan, one of Miss Boyle's biggest supporters, said a victory would have 'just carried on the mayhem' for the unworldly Scottish spinster.

But it appears that the toll of appearing on the show may have already taken an impact on Susan's health.  Yesterday afternoon show aides contacted police to say the 48-year-old was 'acting strangely' at her London hotel.

Piers said Susan was 'almost certain' to sign a record contract with Cowell

According to the Sun newspaper paramedics were then summoned and helped the 'spaced out' star through the lobby and into an ambulance just after 6pm.  A Met Police Inspector and police doctor were called to assist and she was then escorted to the private clinic.

It was obvious from the start she was a bit loopy, the producers should have kept an eye on her.  Other reality show contestants like Big Brother have to see a psychologist.  She believed her own hype, but she isn't invinsible, Diversity were far better, and I voted for Stavros Flately cos I think they were so so entertaining.

How sad mental illness is no joke. I hope she gets a lot of rest and she'll be ok. Therapy helps as well. I really like Susan she sings like an Angel. I just hope this wasn't too much on her.

I'm sure the overwhelming worldwide attention thrust upon someone used to a simpler lifestyle and the many unkind comments took their toll on her.

The 'Hairy Angel' is not a very nice name to be dubbed, even if it were not meant to be unkind.

I wish her well.

Poor lady,

I am sure she will be just fine. God has blessed her. And she must be a very great woman to have captured all of the worlds attention for this long. God bless her.

They should have let her win, seems like they used her up and spit her out. Her talent is more remarkable than a 'dance troupe'
