Suzy Hamilton has nothing to be ashamed about being a sex worker

Suzy Favor Hamilton, who was one of the better Olympians to ever come out of the state of Wisconsin, attended the University of Wisconsin Stevens Point a few years before I did. That is where the similarities between her and I pretty much end. I did play rugby, not too well though, at the university. Well, she has admitted to being a prostitute/sex worker at a brothel in Nevada. My response is simply, that is her choice. She does not harm anyone by that decision.

She does not have to apologize to me or anyone else. I must say it is kind of unfortunate that this is even news because we as a society make sex work so shameful. We make all prostitution illegal, so by driving it underground where underage girls are trafficked or overseas women are tricked into it. She has nothing to be ashamed about. She did not rob or harm anyone with her work. All clients were of course, very willing. Maybe someday, we as a society will have rational public policy, when it comes to this issue.

By the way, Hamilton has been dropped by Disney Corporation. To them she is untouchable, amazing ethics from a company that gets rich by employing sweatshop workers overseas.
