NP Rank:
Tasering of students is it becoming common practice?
In Light of the University of Florida tasering of Andrew Meyer yesterday while in an open question and answer forum of guest speaker of U.S. Sen. John Kerry, D-Mass.
I questioned what is this practice of taser guns and their use to restrain our students on the Universities, Colleges and Public Schools in the United States - common practice? The answer was just as alarming as the events yesterday in Florida!
The answer is, YES or so it seems, stunning or tasering some may say was justified and at times that may be the case! Most times the use of Taser guns should only be used as a last resort and not a first line of action. Which yesterday was the case in point that started me questioning this practice of submission of those that resist (by what ever means) for being disobedient and doing nothing wrong.
Here is yesterday - University of Florida:

Now this is the disturbing part. These are just some of the past Tasering of students that are notice and made open to the public - only because this is where they happen. With the technology of today a phone which is easily a Camera or better yet a video feed of an event that is likely the best and only non-bias witness? Like yesterday events the ones of the past still create questions that make people only have more questions requesting answers of this practice of use in submission via stun guns or best know as a taser.
Do note these are incidents that involved Tasers and are not be the only ones out there!
I only found them to be of interests regarding the tasering of students and to present a notice that the use of Taser guns are becoming used before other uses or means to resolve an incident have been used.
Past Tasering of Students:
This is an incident at UCLA on 11.14.2006 over a student refusing to show his student ID card during “a routine nightly procedure” and did not exit the library when ordered to do so. The LA Times quoted the UCLA Police Chief saying, “The officers decided to use the Taser to incapacitate Tabatabainejad after he went limp while they were escorting him out and urged other library patrons to join his resistance.”

Tasteless taser-tactics lack tact By Lauren Grover News Editor
Is a remark regarding the use Taser for Punishment as of the use date rape and I qoute from L. Grover on remarks made by our own Undersheriff J.J. Hodshire:
"I will relate a few of Hodshire’s remarks I managed to scribble down:
In reference to date rape offenses—of which the college has had no recorded incidents:
“That’s a five year felony and jail time. And it won’t be date rape there.” … to being shocked by a taser gun."
(editors note: While an interesting comment but not a wise one! We have a justice
system to Determine innocence or guilt b-4 a jury of peers! not one
man. Let alone a law enforcement officer.)

It is comments like these that make any person question punishment for and by what means in law enforcement and Officers of peace and how. While at times it "maybe" understanding in and of use of force by what ever means as possible to take care of students and only if they are a threat to other students, themselves or law enforcement. but it is only in a last resort before the use of deadly weapons and other means have been used or exhasted!!!
Yesterdays use of the Taser Gun in the University of Florida was excessive and seems to be the way to quite or quick a situtation without consideration of the individual or reasoning of common thought of what our student body in the United States see and view the Law enforcement on all level! AS ONE ARTICLE STATED "DON'T RESIST THE POLICE OR YOU GET TASERED" Seems they already have got the point out to the student body of america - loud and clear with a zapping sound. **** Survey to everyone who knows of a Tasering of a student in the past. Leave a comment or e-mail me and I will post to story. Any and all incidents regarding taser against students are welcome to place links via comments. Then maybe we can (all) get a clearer understand of how much tasering has been happening in the United States. May as well find out
