Ted Nugent Denounces Global Warming, Says 'Watch Glenn Beck'
On March 8, Detroit rocker Ted Nugent visited Shrine Catholic High School in Royal Oak, Michigan to warn 150 students about the dangers of drugs and alcohol—and to dismiss global warming.
The Stranglehold and Cat Scratch Fever guitarist, 61, is an outspoken right-wing Republican with strong conservative views, which he expressed at his granddaughter’s high school. Nugent denounced global warming as myth and told the kids to watch Glenn Beck of Fox News.
Glenn Beck Believes in Global Warming
Beck recently suggested that global warming was real, but Nugent is of the alternative opinion that the Earth’s heating and cooling is a natural occurrence. He did admit part of the increased warming process could be attributed to mankind and he’s open to trying green alternatives in his daily life—except for compact fluorescent light bulbs, which he said he tried and “couldn’t stand the way they lit up the room.”
Aside from environmental issues, Nugent feels strongly about unrestricted gun ownership and advocates hunting as sport, as detailed in his 2008 book, Ted, White & Blue: The Nugent Manifesto. Nugent is an avid hunter and offers fans the opportunity to go hunting with him through VIP packages on his website.
Ted Nugent Offers Advice on Drugs and Alcohol
While Nugent has never had problems with drugs or alcohol, he has seen too many fellow rock stars succumb to those substances. He mentioned ‘60s guitarist Jimi Hendrix and original AC/DC lead singer Bon Scott as talented peers who both died too young from drug and alcohol abuse.
My music is more intense, my love of music is more intense than ever, my love of life is more intense than ever ... because I’ve been 61 years clean and sober,” said Nugent said. “No drugs, no alcohol, no tobacco, no poison. No silly, funny joke called peer pressure.
The Nuge warned the students not to get involved with drugs and alcohol lest they end up the way so many other popular musicians have - in rehab or worse.
