Teen Mom Amber Portwood & Gary Shirley Investigated After Televised Fight

When the MTV show Teen Mom depicted Amber Portwood physically assaulting Gary Shirley, the father of her child, viewers got in touch with the police in Anderson, Indiana. Though the incident took place six months ago, the police are looking to meet with Amber Portwood and Gary Shirley as part of a domestic violence investigation, even as Child Protective Services launches its own investigation.

In the state of Indiana, domestic violence in front of a child is a felony, punishable by up to three years in prison and a $10,000 fine. The camera crew is also at legal risk, because their inaction as Amber Portwood attacked Gary Shirley could face misdemeanor charges as accessories, or for not reporting the attack when it happened.

There is a downside to attacking someone on national TV: it attracts law enforcement attention.

The police paid a visit to the home of the "Teen Mom" on September 29, but Gary and Amber were out of state at the time. The police have since conducted an initial case report and have spoken with the young parents over the phone.
