Television fans everywhere strike back.

When fans of television shows everywhere strike back, my suggestion to these network television executives and major studio honchos would be to run for the hills, or barricade themselves into their cushy offices and hide in some corner waving the white flag of surrender, as television as we know in North American is about to be reclaimed by the fans, the way it should have been from the very beginning.

The absolute, undeniable fact is that since television first aired back in 1939 World's fair, it's been a dominate media force, controlled and dominated by powerful network television executives and major studio bosses. Network and studio executives had absolute power and control over television, as they alone would call all the shots, make all the necessary decisions upon which show aired on television and which didn't and for how long of a period each show would be given. Their massive egos, and total disregard for programming lead them to cancel such memorable shows like "Star Trek", and "Green Hornet" which lead to a cult following not just in North America, but worldwide as well, especially in Asia. You can just imagine what would have occurred had network executives given both Star Trek and the Green Hornet time to develop, instead of running amok and cancelling the shows with absolutely no regards when it came to the fans of both shows.

To network and studio executives the fans have always been nothing more then mindless zombies, children who they feel still need to be told what to do. They look upon each television viewer as a commodity, something they can exploit for their own selfish needs and turn a profit upon. That's one of the reasons they introduced the ACNielsen ratings, to ensure themselves that they are on top with a select group of viewers, (everyone else out there that's not part of the ACNielsen family counts for nothing) that watch their programming. The ACNielsen rating is what top networks like CBS, ABC, FOX, NBC, CW, and even Disney Channel and Nickelodeon base their programming upon, it's this select group of viewers that determine what you get to watch and for how long. As the ACNielsen ratings are considered the "Holy Bible" of rating sources for the networks.

You the general public, if your not part of the ACNielsen family don't count for nothing. You might as well not even exist at all, for your opinion doesn't count for nothing. If you dare to fall in love with such shows as for example Disney's animated hit series Kim Possible or Disney's other animated series American Dragon, or Jericho, or Nickelodeon's Danny Phantom, or one of my latests favorites, Moonlight be prepared to shed tears and just throw in the towel, cause once those ACNielsen family audiences out there aren't watching, that show is as good as gone. Regardless of the fact that you might be watching and tuning in all the time, your loyality to that show counts for nothing, your not ACNielsen material, your not part of that family, your simply nothing.

Then there's good cop, bad cop played by studio executives and networks like CBS, and of course my all time favorite, just totally ignore the fans and hope they just give up and go away. The give up and go away plan is being currently played by Walt Disney which still refuses to acknowledge the Kim Possible fans and American Dragon fans out there and by Nickelodeon which is simply following the Disney strategy and ignoring all it's devoted Danny Phantom fans everywhere. Walt Disney could easily renew Kim Possible and American Dragon and return both series to Disney Channel on Saturday nights with Kim Possible being on at 8:00 P.M., followed by American Dragon at 8:30 P.M. This would be a sure fire hit for Disney, but instead Disney refuses to even consider the idea, let alone even attempt to embrace their die hard, loyal Disney viewers. Then there's CBS, which played a cruel and heartless stunt on Jericho fans everywhere. CBS executives never really had any plans on keeping Jericho around for a long run, they might argue and debate this all they want, but come on now CBS, let's get real. The bottomline in general is this. Does CBS really care for the fans of Jericho, or did CBS just decide to play up it's image as good cop over the bad cop image of Disney and Nickelodeon? Bringing back Jericho because of the fans was fine and dandy, and made for good P.R., for CBS. But don't tell me CBS wasn't aware that Jericho might not be that popular with the exclusive ACNielsen family, though CBS was aware and is still aware of the extremely loyal fan base that Jericho has, what CBS lacked was, something they never had the intention of doing. Giving Jericho enough time to build itself up into a successful enough show in CBS's eyes.

To just go out and cancel Jericho after all the hard work the Jericho fans put in, was nothing short of low and completely heartless on CBS's part. But here's CBS's chance to redeem themselves again and this time not only for Jericho fans, but for Moonlight fans as well. Listen up CBS, you want to be part of the solution and not the problem, then listen to all those diehard Jericho fans and Moonlight fans out there and simply renew both shows and bring them both back on Friday nights. Have a Jericho, followed by Moonlight Friday nights, which would be another sure fire hit this time for CBS. Renew Jericho and Moonlight on the merits of the fan base and not just on the ACNielsen rating. CBS has the change to break the cycle of dependence on ratings to determine which show stays and which show goes, the question is will CBS step up to the plate or just not even show up to play?

Fans everywhere are beginning to speak out and challenge the once mighty system that the networks and studios had created for themselves to govern over. Their rule is being challenge, as is there might. The once mighty mouse of Disney is being called out by Kim Possible fans ( At Animation Communication Central http://markandbobsforum.proboards83.com/index.cgi   Ron Stoppable Really Neat page http://ronstoppable.proboards89.com/index.cgi?board=fff   www.fightforkp.com ) and American Dragon fans ( http://www.tv.com/american-dragon-jake-long/show/26513/summary.html  http://www.savetheshows.com/  http://americandragon.proboards60.com/index.cgi ) alike are politely lobbying Disney for a Season Five of Kim Possible and a Season Three of American Dragon. The Danny Phantom fans are continuing on with there struggle to convince ( http://www.petitionspot.com/petitions/fightfordanny  http://www.tv.com/danny-phantom/show/8938/whos-still-fighting-to-save-danny-phantom/topic/5316-1072379/msgs.html?tag=board_topics;title;6 ) Nickelodeon to return their favorite ghost boy for a 4th season. While just like Kim Possible and American Dragon fans, Jericho and Moonlight fans have joined forces to ( http://www.jerichonet2.com ) save both their shows and to let CBS know that there in it for the long haul, as somethings are worth fighting for and fans of Point Pleasant ( http://www.savepointpleasantchristinasrevenge.com   http://point.pleasant.free.fr/en/ ) hope that with all the fans frenzy that's going on that their show Point Pleasant might get a chance at coming back as either a series or a made for television movie or a theatrical release. And Futurama fans are still fighting to make sure that Fox listens to their cause and (http://www.petitiononline.com/safu/petition.html http://futurama-madhouse.com.ar/bios/index.shtml ) continues to provide new episodes or new straight to DVD movies of Futurama. The fans have spoken, and whether studio and network executives wish to acknowledge this or not, the fans aren't going away and there not abandoning their shows either like they use too. Fans are now lobbying studios and networks with everything from a letter writing campaign, to mailing nuts, lather, rinse and obey shampoo, to nacho sauce packages, to writing the media challenging them to write their own articles on the fans and their plight to save the shows they love from disappearing forever like they once did before.

What I don’t get is that with today’s technology the rating system no longer needs to rely on the outdated Nielsen uses of counting 1 person as 100K or whichever number they allot. Most people now have a box sitting on there TV’s are hooked to the cable or satellite company by a cable or phone line, and without sounding like I’m paranoid can know your viewing habits, this method will give a truer tally to what people really are watching.
