The main location and at least some of the casting is confirmed for the
previously-discussed Terminator 4...
Shooting on the McG-helmed film, which stars Christian Bale as rebel leader John Connor, will begin in May at Albuquerque Studios in New Mexico. It's the first of a planned trilogy which promises to "reinvent the cyborg saga", as production company Halcyon put it.
The first film is part of pop-culture legend. the second, a kick-butt action flick. The third I can barely remember.
Narratively speaking, there isn't much left to tell. The future was actually covered in the original Terminator: basically, we know what happens because the future took place in the past, which was in the future. Of the past. You know what I mean.
The primary location is the New Mexico desert- presuambly this means daytime shooting in order to leverage that area's unique look. The previous films' flash-forwards took place at night, so at least visually there will be a difference.
Sequels are all about cash grabs, but in this case I have trouble seeing any narrative justification for continuing the story.
Also, with no Arnold Schwarzenegger, can you really call it
Terminator? I argue that you cannot. Say what you want about his acting, but he makes a very convincing robot.

I'm really on the fence about this. On one side I've grown fond of Christian Bale and most of his career choices. On the other side of this poorly painted fence the 3rd movie was horrible. The Governator really MADE the 2nd movie worth watching. Yet the entertainment biz keeps trying to keep the stories of Terminators alive with "The Sarah Connor Chronicles".. I think it's time to give up the ghost.

Isn't there a large gap between the end of the third and the beginning of the first? I want to see John picking out his future dad... that's a cool idea. I also want to see linda Hamilton old, sinewy and distraught... oh wait. That was in the second one.

But can John pick out his future dad? He was already born. Indeed, from his perspective, he must make absolutely sure that Reese fancies his mom, which is just a tiny bit creepy.

Didn't Kyle Reese say that he volunteered for the position, and that he'd been 'in love with [mom] forever'? So... did John just post adds for the job and then take the first person who wanted to be fired off naked into space? THAT is creepy.

Maybe the space time continuum stole his clothes.

Well, fired off naked back in time... not really into space. But yeah.

jordan, though the first terminator was undoubtley the best one, Terminator four may be just an old rehash and without Arnold, I think it smacks of making some cash off the backs of a successful trilogy.
Stallone at age 60 something, performed suberbly in his recent Rambo movie, imagine if you will if Movie Big Wigs decided to use someone else? Perhaps using "Screech" from Saved by the Bell, certainly would not have the Punch Stallone could bring, unless Screech was seen being Bitch slapped repeatedly and screaming like a little girl over and over again by his captors much to the delight of movie goers.
