Don't get your cape and superhero tights in a twist, but Marvel Entertainment has delayed the arrival of two movies in its roster of upcoming comic-book flicks — the release of "Thor" and "Avengers" are both getting pushed back by a year and will be released, respectively, in 2011 and 2012.

No word on why they're being delayed, though the studio has plenty of other action heroes up its sleeve, including forthcoming installments in the Iron Man series and several other alternate superhero adventures in the works.

The superheroes will take just a little longer to arrive on the scene. Marvel Entertainment announced Thursday morning it was pushing back by a year a pair of key properties in its comic-book franchises, "Thor" and "Avengers." The pictures are moving from 2010 and 2011, respectively, to 2011 and 2012.

"Thor" will now release on June 17, 2011 (it had previously been scheduled for July 16, 2010), while "Avengers" will hit theaters on May 4, 2012 (it had been slotted for July 15, 2011).

Execs did not offer a reason for the deferrals; Marvel Studios chairman David Maisel said only that the move "maximizes the visibility of our single character-focused films, leading to the highly anticipated release of the multi-character The Avengers film in 2012."
