On Tuesday, February 2, 2010, Titanic was dethroned by Avatar (also directed by James Cameron) as the highest grossing movie at the domestic box offic. However, its accomplishments are more impressive. Let's take a look:

  • Budget: $200 Million

  • Number of Theaters: 3,265

  • Domestic Box Office: $600.7 Million

  • Adjusted For Inflation: $976.7 Million

  • Worldwide Box Office: $1.2 Billion

  • Opening Weekend: $28.6 Million

  • Weeks At #1: 15

  • Weeks In The Top 10: 26

  • Weeks To Reach #1 Domestically: 13

And, Titanic did it without the aid of 3D, IMAX, and re-releases. Avatar is a major success, but it's no Titanic.
