"Whatever became of the Iceberg that sunk the RMS Titanic?"

There were many theories to what became of the iceberg which collided with the Titanic. One speculation stated by a scientist at the jet propulsion lab was that the hit the iceburg sustained by the Titanic sent it back adrift towards the north pole where it eventually lodged itself with the continent of Greenland till NASA satellites observed it breaking off in May 2002 as one of the largest icebergs ever recorded, named "C-19". Geologists stated this was not possible because C-19 separated from the western face of the Ross Ice Shelf in Antarctica when it splashed into the Ross Sea. Antarctica lies to the southern hemisphere(south celestial pole) whereas Greenland borders the North Atlantic Ocean southeast and is south of the Arctic Ocean.

A similar explanation was introduced in 1992 when an earlier giant iceberg that had been grounded off Antarctica floated free and split in two. The larger chunk, called B-10A was about 24 miles wide and 48 miles long roughly the size of Rhode Island. At the time certain scientists did not know the geographical difference between the northern and southern polar caps though the exact location of the Titanic was confirmed on September 1, 1985 the Hubble Telescope wasn't launched till April 1990.

Years later another report of the so-called Titanic iceburg emerged out of a company located in Sunset Park Brooklyn New York. A water company claimed to be distributing bottled water with the brand name "Poler Spring" from what they claimed were the remnants of the melting iceberg that the Titanic struck . It became an overnight sensation with die hard fans of the film "Titanic" and Leonardo DiCaprio.

Later on investigative reporters accused the company "Poler Spring" of fraud when it was revealed that the source of the Titanic H2O turned out to be plain New York City tap water.

As far as the actual iceburg it was believed to have melted shortly after it's encounter with the Titanic sometime in the earlier part of the 20th century as it moved southward into the warmer waters of the atlantic.

The exact size of the iceberg will probably never be known but, according to early newspaper reports the height and length of the iceberg was approximated at 50 to 100 feet high and 200 to 400 feet long.

In it's short existence the RMS Titanic was full of unusual stories. As ironic as it gets the ocean liner known as the "City of New York" also named the "SS New York" while berthed in Southampton England on April 10, 1912 was torn from her mooring as the Titanic went by. A collision was avoided when Captain Edward Smith of the Titanic ordered the port propeller in reverse while a nearby tugboat operator towed the New York away.

The Titanic which never made it to New York was suppose to dock at Chelsea Piers on West 20th street Manhattan. Instead the Carpathia with it's survivors docked at night on Little West 12th street. It then dropped off the empty lifeboats at Pier 59 before unloading the survivors at Pier 54.

What made the story of the Titanic great was it's ability to capture our imagination. Till recently it was unknown what had really occurred since there were no photos, no newsreel, no survivors who went down with the ship at that precise moment. The lack of knowledge kept our imagination going through the decades afterwards.

The ship itself didn't seem so great once it was located at the bottom of the ocean in pieces. The secret was gone..the mystique, mystery that shrouded the Titanic disappeared on documentary film just as the once mighty ship disappeared neath the ocean surface knowing now it can never be raised.

Now for a short time only one can visit an exhibit known to me as the "Grave Robbers of the Titanic" on display now in New York. For the few weeks which remain and for a ridiculous amount of money charged for admission, and as long as you do not take personal photos one can glance at the items removed from the wreck of the Titanic.

I do not recommend this exhibit like I do not recommend the next upcoming exhibit which features stolen sacred items removed from the tomb of Tutankhamun by english grave robber Howard Carter but then what else can we expect from the Discovery Times Square Exposition which is housed at the former home of the New York Times from February 3, 1913 to June 9, 2007.

Sure the Titanic finally makes it to New York but it shouldn't be in this fashion. The exhibit is most difficult for New Yorkers to see it in a peaceful setting since it is packed with out of towner who cram the exhibit with feeble minded thoughts comparable to those who visit a Home Depot thinking they will build a mansion out of their average home with some plywood and nails for a mere hundred dollars... Their rendition of the Titanic is a movie which stars Leonardo DiCaprio not the neglectful actions of a crew which killed hapless passengers.

The Titanic needed a crew of about 900 to function. How many of those were killed on-board? In the history of maritime travel how many other ships have struck icebergs and sank? These are the real questions.

The Titanic exhibit should be left in one place. At the bottom of the ocean where it belongs along with all it's stolen sacred property.

The Titanic is a gravesite.

So now I finally understand what "biased reporting" is about.  this article was excellent until the personal opinion and judgment muddied the writing.  Archaeology has not always been done with reason or sense but as a forensic tool when there are no survivors to tell the stories it does more service to the dead in telling their stories than any respect lost in disturbing their death place.

As a living human who will one day day I would like to state unequivocally that future questors are free to tell my story in any way they see fit, including putting my memorials or remains on display for the curious and their questing children.

I dig and respect your comment.. but if I wasn't bias than it wouldn't be me.  If my opinions weren't personal than I be politically correct and I could never do that.

I would like to have seen the profits from the Titanic exhibit donated towards maritime safety issues like tsunami warning systems, resolving the Great Pacific Ocean Giant Garbage Patch, or perhaps battling Somali pirates instead of personal gain by private companies.

This particular exhibit is not about that but then what would I know about archaeology, forensics, and memorials. I'm just a photographer. I never said I was a reporter. I'm sure Robert Ballard would agree.

THE TITANIC 100 TH ANNIVERSARY IS SOON COMING UPON US ,There were 2228 people on board of The Titanic, 337 in first class, 285 second class, 721 in third class and 885 crew members. Crew members and designers who had worked on The Titanic since the idea of the ship was first conceived were also among the many souls who perished when the ship sank.Question most often asked is how many survived The Titanic? Of the 2,228 passengers and crew members who set sail on The Titanic only 705 Titanic passengers survived. The Titanic carried 20 lifeboats There were not enough lifeboats on board to hold all the passengers and crew, enough for 1178 people. The Titanic also carried 3500 lifebelts and 48 life rings. It is believed that the majority of passengers that went into the sea did not drown, but froze to death.REMEMBER THOSE WHO PERISHED ON THAT FAITHFUL NIGHT
