Today is "Biggie & Tupac Day" During NBHHCM 2K11
June 16, 2011- The NBHHCM (National Basketball & Hip-Hop Culture Month) Foundation proclaimed last year June 16, 2010 as "Biggie & Tupac Day" during the national observance of NBHHCM 2K10. Today if he was still alive Tupac would be 40. The iconic rapper has left a legacy that lives in the heart and mind of his fans and peers.
Since 2010 there have been over 20 US cities that have proclaimed June as NBHHCM.
The Notorious B.I.G. and Tupac Shakur are linked together forever in history as both hip-hop legends are remembered and celebrated for their special gifts as lyrical mc's on Shakur's birthday. Tupac was born today 40-years ago on June 16, 1971.
NBHHCM Foundation founder Derrick E. Vaughan says, "I'm a personal fan of both Biggie & Tupac. If the two hip-hop icons never existed, I truly believe the connection of hoops and hip-hop would not be as strong and thriving as it is today. The NBHHCM Foundation is thankful to both Biggie & Tupac for their contribution to the "Dunkadelic-Era" and they will forever have this day in their honor during the national observance of NBHHCM. I'm proud and honored to wish a 40th birthday to the legacy of Tupac Shakur a true icon of American culture."
Today is also the birthday (53) of former University of Louisville and NBA legend Darrell "Dr. Dunkenstein" Griffith. The hi-flyin' guard from the early 1980's won a National Championship with the U of L in 1980. Griffith was one of the nine participants in the first-ever NBA Slam Dunk Contest in 1984. The City of Louisville proclaimed this June 2011 as NBHHCM.
Since 2009 June has been proclaimed and observed as NBHHCM (National Basketball & Hip-Hop Culture Month).
