If I were a celeb I'd be staying far away from the Kauri Cliffs in New Zealand... it is a (hoax) death trap for stars.  Shortly after news broke of two high profile celebrity deaths, Farrah Fawcett and Michael Jackson, a lone tweet from a third, very living celebrity, sounded an alarm.

And yes Ed McMahon. I just heard Jeff Goldblum may have died today too!!! Can anyone confirm that?

It was a little tweet from @mrskutcher (known outside the Twittersphere as Demi Moore) related to a hoax post stating that actor Jeff Goldblum had fallen to his death while filming in New Zealand.  The news of his death was greatly exaggerated and appeared on only one site of unknown origins.  The post called Jeff Goldblum's death a "developing story," here is exactly how it read:

Actor Jeff Goldblum died while filming a movie in New Zealand early this morning - June 25, 2009.

Preliminary reports from New Zealand Police officials indicate that the actor fell more than 60 feet to his death on the Kauri Cliffs while on-set. Specific details are not yet available.

The accident occured at aproximatly 4:30 a.m. (UTC/GMT +12). Additional details and information will be forthcoming.

A quick search of "Jeff Goldblum dies," "Jeff Goldblum dead" and "Jeff Goldblum falls" from legitimate news sites yielded nothing, but a search for "Kauri Cliffs fall" was gold.  It seems that the same celebrity death hoax circulated about Tom Cruise in 2008 while he was in New Zealand.

Tom Cruise is alive and well despite online reports that the actor fell to his death in New Zealand on Wednesday morning.

An Internet hoax claimed the Mission:Impossible actor had plunged to the ground while climbing New Zealand’s famed Kauri Cliffs this week.

Twitter quickly told Demi Moore the truth and she was not amused... neither are we.  On a day where two major celebrities passed such a hoax is beyond poor taste, it is downright disgusting. Shame on whoever started the Jeff Goldblum is dead rumor.

that is horrible RT @KatAragon: it was a horrible hoax site mentioning the death of Jeff Goldblum They say ths 2 drive traffic :/

Actor Kevin Spacey confirmed, via Twitter, that Jeff Goldblum is alive and well putting to rest once and for all the rumors of the actor's untimely death in New Zealand.  A second rumor of the day that actor Harrison Ford, who is currently filming with Goldblum in New York, had died was also a hoax.

Jeff Goldblum is alive and well. I just spoke to his manager. Stop these stupid rumors.

I think it's in poor taste to tweet about death hoax on any day, not to mention today as the article has pointed out.

It gets even worse... apparently there is another rumor going around that Harrison Ford has died.  It is also a hoax with a weird link to Jeff Goldblum.  Goldblum and Ford are filming a movie 'Morning Glory' together in New York.
