Julian Assange Should Be Assassinated: Tom Flanagan - Adviser To Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper (video)

Tom Flanagan, a University of Calgary professor, prominent Conservative thinker and a former adviser to the Canadian Prime Minister, says Julian Assange should be assassinated. Tom Flanagan delivered the on a Power Politics a CBC News show hosted by Evan Solomon.

When asked about Wikileaks and Julian Assange,  Tom Flanagan said "Assange should be assassinated (laughs). I think Obama should put out a contract on him....

When Evan Solomon said to Tom Flanagan "that is pretty tough" and asked for clarification about his "Assange should be assassinated"  comments;  Tom Flanagan simply said " I'm feeling pretty manly.."

Julian Assange is wanted by Interpol after Swedish Police re-opened a sexual molestation case against Assange. Julian Assange denies the allegations saying it is a smear campaign. The question on everyone's mind now, Where is Jualian Assange?

Harper advisor calls for assassination of Wikileaks director

After the CBC show aired Tom Flanagan issued this statement.

"I regret that I made a glib comment about a serious issue," Flanagan said Tuesday in a statement to CBC News. "If Mr. Assange is arrested on the recently announced Interpol warrant, I hope [he] receives a fair trial and due process of law."

This is not a surprising comment from an advisor to a government that wants to build prisons on the mere speculation of increased crime and that generally prefers to bully rather than to discuss and debate.

I think Flanagan should resign from his position as adviser to Stephen Harper and as a professor at University of Calgary. Is this the kind of image we want to be putting out their as Canadians? And does the University of Calgary want the reputation of having professors like this? What he said goes against everything we stand for as a civilized society. Justice and equal treatment for all. For him to call for the murder of a person who has not been proven guilty of anything in a court of law is primitive and stupid. This is something you would expect from an uneducated extremist but not a professor. This fool needs to stop being in a position where he can represent our country or teach students who will be the representatives of our country in the future.

Nice.... a fascist in plain view. He's at least open, but what is happening when we let these dinosaurs from a paradigm we left 60 years ago back into power?

Julain Assange is the new real media hero.

Why is this fascist not sent back to the US? And why is the University of  Calgary not firing him immediately, what a nazi. I bet Hillary Clinton will give him a position in Obama's government as responsible for chasing Assange, although I'm afraid he would not even know where's UK and how to get there. Asshole

This comment seriously darkens the reputation of the University of Calgary internationally. It has certainly dropped in the estimation of most academics here in the UK - especially with the refusal of the UofC to consider disciplinary action. Given that Flanagan was only able to publicly air his views by virtue of his standing as an "academic" with the UofC, the university's decision not to take action is a very poor reflection on the institution.

Assange has wrapped himself in the robes of the pious and self righteous and appointed himself defender of Public good. What he does is manipulate and censor material before he releases it. Case in point is the video of the Reuters killing. (the beginning portions of the videotape can be found on the Jawa Report and other websites)Wikileaks purposely edited out the portion of that tape at the beginning which clearly showed the men carrying RPG's and AK47's, now he whines about calls for his assassination/execution??.he is nothing less than a criminal who richly deserves the backlash.Let the silence that follows the neutralization of Julian Assange, his staff and his co-conspirators speak volumes to the enlightened socialist academia, liberal intelligencia and those sneering, malicious self appointed bringers of "clarity and truth"  remaining who toy with the idea of dabbling in what is nothing more than a treasonous, seditious exercise in self gratification wrapped in the robes of the self righteous. As a footnote, I find it remarkable that Assange, now righteously indignant that his death has been called for, falls back on the Canadian criminal code to silence opposition to his little program of murderous anarchy. How utterly predictable that a man who has toyed with the lives of millions for his own personal amusement now shrilly calls for the protections afforded by the democratic processes of the very nations and governments he has unceasingly assaulted and subverted.

Tom Flanagan should then possibly push for the release of Mark David Chapman and also write honorary speeches for the assassinators of JFK as wasn't it John who said "“The very word ‘secrecy’ is repugnant in a free and open society; and we are as a people inherently and historically opposed to secret societies, to secret oaths, and to secret proceedings.” — John Fitzgerald KennedyAs George Bernard Shaw remarked ‘Assassination is the extreme form of censorship”. If Flanagan bases his thinking process on "manliness", I think he should perhaps leave political opinion to the sane and join a wrestling group or something.Despite speculations on his comments, either way, the man seems unfit to be teaching at an educational institution and should perhaps take up the role as head of a radical right-wing bully gang somewhere … at least then he can preach assassination when and where-ever he pleases.

I would urge the University of Calgary to censure Professor Flanagan and remove him from any position of authority, influence, or otherwise. I would also urge thoughtful and circumspect students to boycott his lectures. His statements are deplorable and indefensible. We need more people like Mr. Julian Assange who are willing to speak truth to power, and encourage the free flow of information which directly affects public policy decisions. If we value freedom of information, transparency, openness, and democracy, we ought to praise not condemn such efforts. "Information is the currency of democracy." -- Thomas Jefferson"The liberties of a people never were, nor ever will be, secure, when the transactions of their rulers may be concealed from them." -- Patrick Henry"Nothing so diminishes democracy as secrecy." -- Ramsey Clark"The very word ‘secrecy’ is repugnant in a free and open society; and we are as a people inherently and historically opposed to secret societies, to secret oaths, and to secret proceedings." -- John Fitzgerald Kennedy"A government by secrecy benefits no one. It injures the people it seeks to serve; it damages its own integrity and operation. It breeds distrust, dampens the fervor of its citizens and mocks their loyalty." -- Russell Long"When the state constitution grants each citizen an "inalienable right" to "privacy," it’s talking about individuals seeking safety from an overreaching government, not an elected official trying to evade the oversight of constituents. It’s the difference between seeking protection from tyranny and seeking protection from democracy." -- Jon Mendelson"The basic purpose of FOIA is to ensure an informed citizenry, vital to the functioning of a democratic society, needed to check against corruption and to hold the governors accountable to the governed." -- United States Supreme Court in NLRB v. Robbins Tire Co., 437 U.S. 214, 242 (1978)"The overarching purpose of access to information legislation … is to facilitate democracy. It does so in two related ways. It helps to ensure first, that citizens have the information required to participate meaningfully in the democratic process, and secondly, that politicians and bureaucrats remain accountable to the citizenry." -- Gerard LaForest, former Supreme Court of Canada Justice, in Dagg vs. Canada (1997)

Tom Flanigan If its ok to assassinate the wikileaks founder, is it ok to assassinate you too ? Anything happens to him, I praty someone comes after you. The only difference in the 2 assassinations will be that the world will bet better off without goofs like you. Ass for a world without Assange, it will allow the people you pathetically advise to run amock. And as for your comment about "we know where you live" to that lady, wont be hard to find out where 'you" live buddy.
