Tom Hanks Backs Obama
'Beware: Celebrity Endorsement'?
Whether or not celeb support is enough to sway voters on election day is anyone's guess, but it definitely helps boost your aspirant presidential profile when the stars align on your behalf.
Tom Hanks is supporting presidential hopeful Barack Obama.
Hanks has taken to his MySpace.com page to pledge his support for Obama, who is competing to be the first black president. Obama, who faces rival Hillary Rodham Clinton for the Democratic nomination, has also been endorsed by Oprah Winfrey, Bruce Springsteen and Scarlett Johansson.
"As an official celebrity, I know my endorsement has just made your mind up for you," the 51-year-old actor says in a short video titled, "Beware: Celebrity Endorsement."
"History with a capital `H' is going to be made this November, no matter who the president-elect is. I want Barack Obama to be president of this country, a country that once said people with his skin color were only three-fifths of a human being."

This was taken during the 60th anniversary of D-Day in Normandy where Mr Hanks greeted the attending veterans. I took my father in law who was a D-Day veteran. Mr Hanks was truely gracious to all who approached him and asked for a photo. When his military escort told him that he was wanted for a "press conference", he politely told the escort that he was there to meet any and all veterans who wanted to meet him because that was the reason that he was there. I approached him as I was a Vietnam Veteran and he gave me a huge bear hug and thanked me for my service. He also said that nota lot was done for us but someday there will be. I was fortunate to get a picture with him and another hug.
It was the highlight of my trip to France.
