This time three winters ago, my inter-faith family had a conversation about traditional decorations - do we get a tree or not. In my house growing up, we always trompped out into the woods to get a tree and then used it in the first weeks of January for firewood. It never even occured to me that there would be a place in my life for a fake tree. There was either a tree or there wasn't.
Now, with the world finally taking a look into trends, habits and cultural effects on the environment, I still feel good about getting a real tree, and have made sure that I get a farmed tree with the procedes going to a worthwhile cause. (See the details of why a real, farmed, natural tree is better for everyone
here.)
Be advised, however that there is a reason to consider curling up in front of a fire or some LED lights on your ficus. Natural Christmas trees will increase the mold spores in your house for the period of time they are there. Once you remove it, and the needles, your air quality will go back to normal. (
see story here)
I for one will be buying some Benedrill and enjoying the double dose of Holiday traditions, as usual.
