Nine Inch Nails - The Good Soldier - Victoria BC December 5 2008

After trying to beat Radiohead at their own 'reinventing the music industry' game earlier this year, Trent Reznor has built up some understandable frustrations with the biz.

Now the Nine Inch Nails frontman is rumoured to be considering retiring from music.

We'll see if it happens; 2008 has been a year of rumoured retirements in the world of entertainment and music.

It appears Trent Reznor's longstanding frustration with the music biz may just force him into retirement. In a lengthy diatribe posted to Nine Inch Nails' website, Reznor -- upset that a "certain record company" failed to fund a new DVD -- also wrote that not only would the band's shows slated for 2009 take "a completely different approach with some different personnel," but would "be the last for the foreseeable future."

Who else is rumoured to be retiring? I've not been keeping up at all. :(

Is he really retiring, or laying down??

There's an old adage about flogging a dead horse.

I was listening to him back when he was a big haired 80's pop dork, all through his career until...alas, the well ran dry.

His problem is he became happy with his new woman, and any artist will tell you, whether they paint, or write poetry...without the darkness, the creative juices do not flow...

I think this is when he pretty much lost his sting...it was obvious when he went from being the featured soundtrack of natural born killers to "You are my perfect drug..."

If he ever decides to give it another run, lets just hope he doesn't pull a puff daddy, I mean p. diddy, or whatever he calls himself now...and spend the rest of his life remixing songs people really never liked to begin with.

Maybe on his comeback album we'll hear some songs like a remix of Neslon & Iglasias' "To all the girls I loved before", only loved would more than likely be replace with something a little more explicit.

Perhaps the names of the Hard Drives in his studio computer?

If you don't know about that, then you're probably not as hard core a fan of Mr. Reznor as you may think.

By the way, I named one of my sons after him.  Now what am I going to do?

I really don't see Trent retiring from music at all. Sure he may be frustrated with the way everything is going, but things will work out. The man in a genius, he always seems to figure it out.

Also, NIN has not been trying to 'beat Radiohead at their own game' in changing the music industry. Trent has been fucked by every label he's been with in the past, and he's trying to change it for the sake of the music. Not to beat Radiohead at their own game.

Just because this tour in ending, and he can't afford to have such ellaborate shows anymore, doesn't mean we won't have another tour, or anymore music in the future. I just can't see a future without any NIN, or Trent Reznor without his music.

honestly i do not believe that trent will be close to retirement.
his passion for this is just the start
yes, he may retire from the band within a few years
IF he decides
but that wont seperate him from music whatsoever

this tour was the best of the year hands down
the most amazing thing to have ever witnessed in my life
and i believe hes got a few more tricks up his sleeve for his fans. whether it be new music or hey! maybe a dvd somehow.

I wouldn't be shocked to hear that he plans to finally settle down, get married and start having kids. He said he wanted to do that, last year in a magazine interview.

I think he might go on an extended hiatus like the 5 year sojourns he used to do. And possibly work on some instrumental pieces on the side as an outlet for his creativity. The "Head Like a Hole" disaffected youth Trent is gone.

He'll be back. They always come back!

I don't blame him for wanting to retire. The mans been doing this his whole life. The hot man's been doing this his whole life I meant to say..... mmmm Trent Reznor.... oh shit am I still typing this?!?!

I must see NIN before they "retire"

I think he may give touring a break for a while. There is the tv series/mini series/movie based on Year Zero to consider as well.

He is not retiring.  This whole thing has been taken completely out of context.  He simply said that he will not be touring with a production as big as this in the near future.  This tour was huge and..expensive.  The guy asks $55 for tickets which is lower than most bands touring whose stage shows are not even half the size or cost.

So all this "he's retiring to do x, y, or z" isn't true.   He will take a break from touring after the shows in 2009, but I mean, doesn't every band??

My boyfriend and I went to see NIN (my favorite band) at the Bilo Center in Greenville, South Carolina.
