The Trouble with Summer 2009

Harry Potter fans were shocked tonight when Warner Bros decided to move the latest installment from upcoming November to July 2009. The reason for this is that the writer's strike affected things to the point where summer 2009 is lacking big movies. Or atleast big movies that people want to see. So, by moving the movie to July the studio has a chance to make extra money since it doesn't have any strong competition.

However, was this the best solution for a lacking summer `09? Before I move on let me show you the summer schedule, so you have an idea of what I'm writing about. Here's a link to the schedule.

Notice that May looks very good, if not great. Yet the rest of the summer doesn't. Why? It's because studios are obsessed with May. Now, how many times over the past few years have you heard (or read) someone complain about how packed the month is? Well, I think this is a chance for studios to give the month some space.

For example, Disney could move Hannah Montana: The Movie from May 1 to June 5. Also, Universal can move Bruno from May 15 to August 14. Or what about Warner Bros moving Terminator: Salvation from May 22 to June 12. Also, Universal can move Drag Me to Hell from May 29 to August 21 which currently has no movie opening.

Just a simple suggestion to Hollywood.
