NP Rank:
Turkish crescent and star adorns Brussels
Looking at the headlines on NP I saw the post by Pep, ” Turks Riot in Brussels; Attack Armenians &…”. This remembered me of many things..
To make my point I quote from Pep’s post,
…”Buses and trams were attacked. Several cars were torched and shops destroyed. Police forces were unable to restore law and order in the boroughs of Sint-Joost-ten-Node and Schaarbeek where since last Sunday the animosity among Turks is running high. Turkish flags are omnipresent. In some streets the Turkish crescent and star adorns almost every house.”..
I was born in Belgium and lived for many years in Schaarbeek, one of the nineteen municipalities of Brussels, where a major part of the riots take place. Looking at the Belgian press (in French) I realized that the riots localized around the “Place Liedts”, not far from the Vondel street where I lived for many ears with my family. When I leaved Belgium in 1950, Schaarbeek was a middle class urban municipalities without any major events. But on my visits to Brussels, every few years,I found that the whole middle class population in Schaarbeek transferred itself to other parts of Brussels under the pression of a part of theTurkish emigration who settled down in Schaarbeek taking their place, Schaarbeek was unbelievable changed. To day the consequences of such an emigration policy into ghetto lands make it easy for such bursts of anger to explode, here the ’cause’ is the border tension between Turky an the PKK.
Now as for the actualities, here are pictures I extracted from video clips taked on-the-spot of the riots.
UPDATE.
...."The calls with the gathering were launched by sms, Internet and of the turkish-speaking chains of television which emit from Germany. New sms calling with a gathering Thursday evening and Saturday circulates in the Turkish community of Brussels. The communal authorities of Schaerbeek and Saint-Josse informed that the police device will be maintained during the next days. see here in French

korzac, Good stuff. You're on my favourites list now. It's nice to get raw footage, so frequently sanitized in Canadian news. You speak of Ghettos, tragic as it is, it is people who blame their misfortune on others when they cannot get a job, or a bigger salary, or a nicer car or clothes, some feel the world owes them a living, and do not want to better themselves. MTV shows the rich to the poor, the poor see this, and want it, want it bad, by hook or by crook, unfortunately crook is easier,
Thanks

Barry thanks for putting me on your favorites list and thanks for the flag.
It is futile to try to sanitize news, clips, pictures etc because you find the same news uncensored on the Internet in blogs, on footage in countries who want to show mostly your bad points. Yesterday I read the French and Flemish press and looked at the video clips on RTLinfo.be, well the police the Turkish demonstrators and the people living in Schaerbeek expressed vehemently their opinions on prime time.
The creation of Turkish ghettos was an evolutionary process, caused by the ethnicity of the new immigrants vis a vis the traditional Belgian population of Brussels. The Belgian authorities welcomed the Turkish immigration but then lost control and in every emigration there are extremist leaders who take advantage of these weaknesses for causes totally irrelevant for the everyday live of the Turkish residents in Brussels.

Your welcome Korzac, hence why citizen journalism may one day make mainstream newsprint go the way of the DoDo Bird.
As you stated regardless of ethinicity their will always be someone (Extremeists)who will take advantage of the weak whose economic or personal problems (Immigrants) whether real or imagined and twist their minds for their own personal political or religious agenda. Ethnic vote buying Politicians and Extremists do it here, and in a religious manner we have Imams, Scientologists and Christian Tele Evangelists in Canada and the US who do it as well in order to maintain their offices or their opulent lifestyle paid for by the ignorant masses who believe these Religious Zealots who state they follow the one true "Imaginary Friend", whether it be Jaysus, Allah, Mohamed, Jehovah, Buddha, Moses, Joseph Smith, Ron Hubbard or Teletubbies . Granted they may have all existed , but Gods or Demi Gods they aint. Nothing changes, it's always the "Same Crap, Different Diaper".

PEP your post mentioned 'Schaarbeek', where I lived for many years... and this was the trigger for my post...'The Rest is History'.
Thanks for the flag.
