Tweeter, Facebook, Last.FM Coming Soon To Xbox 360
Microsoft is ready to launch a software update to XBOX 360 that will allow users to access Twitter, Facebook, and Last.FM. The beta version is scheduled for a mid to late October release and will lack some basic functions, such as playing Facebook games and videos.
It will be interesting to see how the experience of tweeting and facebooking is translated to an Xbox 360 user interface. Even if the graphics are amazing, a 360 controller is not all that convenient to type text with, no matter how cute and nice the avatars appear to be.
But listening to Last.FM may not be such a bad idea. It would be pretty nice to play tunes off your Xbox 360, especially since many people have pretty awesome hi-fi stereos connected to their HDTVs. It might succeed because it's similar to the way that Netflick users can watch streaming video off of their Xbox 360.
Entertainment Manager for Xbox Jennifer Puzio-Brookes modeled the update for a select few in a behind-closed-doors session today. After her performance, Ms. Brookes announced the beta will go live "middle-towards-end of October" -- exciting news for those who were disappointed by the Felicia Day demo.
