Although I am not in the target demographic of this franchise, I understand the appeal of it. Which is why I'm not as critical of the series as others in my gender. But that may change with the 2-part finale.

The story begins with the fairy tale wedding between Bella (Kristen Stewart) and Edward (Robert Pattinson). Then there's the honeymoon where the two lovers finally get-it-on. But the happiness doesn't last long. Only a couple of weeks into the honeymoon, Bella gets knocked up and the pregnancy is moving at a rabid speed.

I love the idea of a human carrying the child of a vampire. And all the scenes dealing with this subject matter turned out quite well. Especially since the vampire baby has a hunger for blood and is draining Bella from the inside. She's at the risk of dying because of this kid. But, while all this drama is fun to watch, it can't be ignored that Bella could have avoided these complications.

For starters, why is Bella's father always being left in the dark? This is a girl that desperately needs someone to slap some sense into her. She has no guidance whatsoever. Secondly, and I apologize to all Edward fans out there, but Jacob (Taylor Lautner) was the better choice. If you can't see that then you're just blind. And speaking of Jacob, the treatment of his character keeps getting worse and worse. I don't know what werewolves ever did to Stephanie Meyers, but it was completely idiotic to make Jacob fall in love with you-know-who. It's such a disrespect to one of the few decent characters in this series. And an insult to the intelligence of the audience. Like I said earlier, it's getting more and more difficult to defend this stuff.

Twilight: Breaking Dawn opens this Friday.
