'Twilight' at the MTV Movie Awards '09: 'New Moon' Trailer Debuts

The 2009 MTV Movie Awards was, not-too-shockingly, all about Twilight. One of the most hyped moments of the event came with the debut of the New Moon trailer. The fan-frenzied film, how's that for alliteration, snagged about every award to be had at the ceremony; from Best Fight Scene to Best Kiss and even, Best Movie.

It was almost a clean sweep for Twilight, the popular movie about a romance between a teen vampire and a human girl based on the bestselling books by Stephenie Meyer.

Twilight took the Best Movie prize, as well as Best Male Breakthrough Performance, for heartthrob star Robert Pattinson; Best Female Performance for his leading lady, Kristen Stewart; Best Kiss for Pattinson and Stewart; and Best Fight Scene for Pattinson's dust-up with Cam Gigandet.

Its only miss was the Best Song From a Movie prize, which went to Miley Cyrus and "The Climb" from Hannah Montana: The Movie.

The win for Best Kiss was a bit of a tease, with stars Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson re-enacting a scene from the film but to no avail, pulling out right before the kiss.

Throughout the ceremony it seemed that the Twilight cast had brought back some traditions from their New Moon filming location, Vancouver. Between some awkward lingering at the microphone and star Kristen Stewart dropping the award behind the scenes, it seemed as though the cast was feeling good for reasons beyond winning a slew of awards.

Host Andy Samberg spoofed the trailer and kept the audience in anticipation during a commercial break after which the real trailer premiered. As for the trailer, whether or not it was up to expectations was regardless: IT'S TWILIGHT.

Twilighters were pretty excited to hear that the “New Moon” trailer would debut at last night’s MTV Movie Awards. Actually, that’s a bit of an understatement. Possessed of a fervor that gives even “Harry Potter” lovers pause, “Twilight” fans set the Internet afire with chatter about the trailer in the days leading up to last night. The anticipation ran so high for the trailer that Summit Entertainment even signed off on releasing a clip of it prior to yesterday evening’s premiere. A clip. From a trailer. All I can really say to that is “wow.”
