Twilight Tickets Selling Out

The vampires of Twilight are expected to take a huge bite at the box office this weekend. Online ticket vendors are reporting that 500 advanced midnight screenings have been sold out while 400 overall weekend screenings are sold out as well. That's a total of 900 sold out screenings. It has forced theatre owners to add more screenings to meet demands.

Following the $67 million dollar opening of the latest James Bond movie, Quantum of Solace and the $63 million of Madagascar 2 it seems that despite the weak economy audiences will still pay to watch the latest Hollywood blockbusters.

Twilight is based on the popular book series by Stephanie Meyer.

UPDATE: Edward Douglas of ComingSoon estimates a $70 million dollar opening for Twilight.

UPDATE 2: Variety is reporting that 2,000 screenings are sold out.
