Twitter Down: Fail Whale!

Twitter is down... at least for you erstwhile Truemorist. I get an annoying 503 message: no server available to handle my request. Maybe the servers are all on a cigarette break, bitching about management and poorly-tipping customers. Anyway, is Twitter down for you? Any Fail Whale sightings?

OK, so Twitter is back online for me. And that's really what matters. It's all about yours truly.

We saw a huge spike in Twitter trouble reports over at http://downrightnow.com/twitter beginning at 12pm ET and lasting for about 20 minutes. Both twitter.com and search.twitter.com were giving errors in our own testing. Twitter seems to be back online now, and we'll continue to monitor service status.

If Twitter starts acting up again, drop by downrightnow to report an issue and help spread the word. We make it easy to tell when there's a widespread issue, especially when Twitter is slow to update its own status blog (as is the case this morning). We also monitor disruptions at Facebook, Gmail and several other web services.
