Twitter Outsources Ad Revenue Development

Twitter has announced ad revenue partnerships with Federated Media as well as the imaginativel-named Social Media. Twitter has taken the same approach to revenue generation as it has towards development: let other people do it.

Social Media is launching Twitter Sparq, which embeds ads in Twitter streams (wheee!), while Federated Media's CinemaTweets is, well.. their "About" page isn't particulalry helpful, but I think it's something to do with targeted advertising for movies.

This is the shape of things to come, though: when the entirety of a tweet is a handful of charactes, it's hard for an ad to be anything other than spam.

This week, two companies are working on ways to embed advertising with the Twitter experience, experiments that could pave the way to how Twitter will do the same.
