Over a period of years Hanover Quay Studios became a focal point for U2 fans from across the world and the wall across the street became the new ‘U2 Wall’, featuring lots of graffiti. In general the graffiti was not very artistic but I considered it to be interesting.

Yesterday I was stopped by two middle-aged tourists from Japan. They needed directions to the "new" U2 Graffiti Wall on Hanover Quay but when I told them how to get there they became a bit confused insisting that they had been to the location as I had described but there was nothing relating to U2 to be seen there. As I was planning to visit Hanover Quay I offered to guide them there.

When we arrived I was more than surprised by what I saw. Most of the U2 specific graffiti had been painted over and replaced by very generic graffiti and/or street art.

I believe in freedom of expression, but these graffiti are not pretty, but they have good messages... Oscar Araos Guzman
