Conservative Council leader who dressed as Adolf Hitler suspended
Conservative Council leader, Mike Gardner has been suspended from the Conservative Party after pictures of him dressed as Adolf Hitler emerged earlier this week, Gardner who dressed as Hitler for a fancy dress party he was attending was reported as saying “It was a private birthday party and the dress code was the war. Do I feel ashamed? No. It was fancy dress and a piece of fun”.
Chairman of Harrogate and Knaresborough Conservative Association, Heather Adderley is reported as stating the choice of costume was "totally unacceptable".
His colleagues in the Conservative Party have described his behaviour as 'unacceptable' and it was announced on Friday he had been suspended and an investigation launched.Outrage: Councillor Mike Gardener was photographed dressed as Adolf Hitler and giving a Nazi salute at the partyMr Gardener has responded to the outrage caused by the photos by claiming he had been the victim of a smear campaign.
Britain's Prince Harry, caused a storm in 2005, when he was photographed on the front page of The Sun newspaper in a Nazi soldier's uniform which he wore to a fancy dress party." Of the Princes choice of costume in 2005, The Board of Deputies of British Jews described it as being in bad taste. Prince Harry later apologized publicly for causing any distress. One has to ask the question, just what the Council leader was thinking when he chose to wear his Hitler costume. Did he really think that everyone would find it funny? Millions of people died during the Holocaust because of Hitler, surely one can understand why people would be upset by a public leader dressing as Adolf Hitler

Hitler's racist policies are acceptable, but not the kind of dress he wore to conservatives. In public display,it is form which matters not contents.
