According to early box office estimates for Friday, Valentine's Day was #1 with $16.5 million. At #2 are Percy Jackson and The Wolfman with $10.5 million. It probably won't be a tie when actuals are released. At #3, and losing steam, is Avatar with $4.8 million.  Although it's getting closer to $700 million domestically every day. And, finally, last week's champ, Dear John, falls to #4 with $4.5 million. Basically, Dear John lost to a movie with a similar demographic, Valentine's Day.

The real competition is between Valentine's Day and Percy Jackson. On one hand, it's Valentine's Day weekend, but on the other hand it's President's Day weekend as well. Many couples will be watching movie's this long weekend but so will families. So, Valentine's Day was #1 on Friday but it'll be a close race these next three days.
