Vancouver Queer Film Festival Trailer

The Vancouver Queer Film Festival celebrates 21 years from August 13th through August 23rd.  The festival is Vancouver's second largest film festival and western Canada's largest queer arts event.

"Queer youth, queer history, the queer Asian experience and queer champions of hope will be the major themes explored in 71 films to be screened over 11 days during the 21st annual Vancouver Queer Film Festival, August 13 to 23, 2009."

Satisfy your cravings with cool documentaries, spicy international films, sizzling parties, and mouth-watering performances as Vancouver's second largest film festival brings film lovers and filmmakers together to celebrate the best of independent queer cinema. And there's bound to be a little flirting too!

Twenty-two films have been classified so that youth under the age of 18 can enjoy inspiring queer stories as part of this year's Focus on Youth, which will also include NO HATE!, a youth gala party celebrating youth-made film, art and performance.

The Festival's Queer Speakers' CabaƱa will invite festival-goers to participate in the Queer History Project Focus by sharing stories of life, love, hope and change.

"I know you cannot live on hope alone. But without I life is not worth living" Harvey Milk said more than 20 years ago, and the Festival's Focus on Hope gathers together the stories of queer champions from around the world to inspire our hopeful hearts.

To counter the chronic lack of Asian representation on screen, the Festival's Focus on Asian Voices will feature some of the best queer and queer-friendly Asian voices in cinema, including sci-fi drama, outstanding documentaries and short films by local filmmakers.

Beyond the lineup of exciting and provocative films the 2009 Vancouver Queer Film Festival will create a unique community space by hosting workshops, panel discussions, interdisciplinary installations and other special events and activities.
