The Velvet Underground Reunites for Q&A Session (Video)
The Velvet Underground, widely considered one of the most influential bands of all time, made a rare appearance when they reunited for a question and answer session in New York City on Tuesday, December 8. Band members Lou Reed, Maureen 'Moe' Tucker, and Doug Yule took the stage at the New York Public Library where they sat down to answer the live audience's questions.
The Velvet Underground is often associated with and best-known for their ties to pop artist Andy Warhol so it came as no surprise that a number of the questions posed dealt with the artist and his relation to the band. Reed admitted the impact Warhol had on the band, saying the only reason the band got attention was that people assumed Warhol was a part of the band when in reality he was merely the manager.
"Warhol was one of the greatest people I've ever met in my life," Reed explained. "Without him, [The Velvet Underground were] kind of inconceivable. When they hired us to make a record it wasn't because of us, it was because of him. They didn't know us – they thought he was the lead guitarist or something!"
Check out the fan-filmed video below to catch the extent of the Q&A.
