Verizon Wireless Slams AT&T With Twilight Spoof Commercial
The cell phone wireless network war between Verizon Wireless and AT&T continues with Verizon's latest commercial featuring a full-on Twilight spoof. The Two network providers have been warring through their TV commercials, and it seems Verizon has now turned to pop culture for their latest slam against rival AT&T.
Various companies have made Twilight themed commercials and ad campaigns such as Burger King's Team Edward VS Team Jacob promotions. Volvo ads in 2009 also featured clips from the Twilight film "New Moon" to promote the Volvo XC60 Sedan. Now Verizon has spoofed the woods scene from Twilight featuring a serious conversation between Edward and Bella, except this time it's this guy Sabastian and some blonde haired girl.
In Verizon's Twilight spoof, Sabastian (spoofed Edward) the vampire is about the bite the blonde until he sees the signature AT&T map of 3G coverage pop up over her head. The Twilight mockery continues with his line: "Forever is a really long time to be struggling with slow music downloads and e-mails." He then runs off to some other girls who have the Verizon 3G maps over their heads. Enter the werewolf which is supposedly the Jacob character who comes up behind the girl and just says: "So...'sup?"
While the Twilight spoof commercial is pretty corny, Verizon has been smart to enlist the advertising help of such a huge film franchise - even if its in mockery. People love Twilight, and Twilight definitely sells, that much has been proven within the last two years. Whether Verizon is trying to market their network as "Team Edward" and AT&T's network as "Team Jacob," it kind of seems like a win win situation for both parties.
