VH1: Pop Up Video is Back in Fall 2011
Pop Up Video Returns to VH1
VH1 is resurrecting Pop Up Video. Ten years ago, Pop Up Video was one of VH1's most popular shows, combining music videos with the sorts of trivia and behind-the-scenes factoids that you would expect to find in DVD special features. It was the best of both worlds.
However, the original Pop Up Video did not include any hip-hop content, since VH1's sister channel, MTV, was branded as rap-friendly. That will change in the autumn of 2011, though, as Pop Up Video returns: rap videos will indeed be featured.
Videos I want to See on Pop Up Video 2011:
- Holy Diver, by Dio
- A Little Time, by The Beautiful South
- Undercover of the Night, by the Stones
- The Rain (Supa Dupa Fly), by Missy Elliot
- Kids, by MGMT
- Runaway, by Kanye West
- Any video ever made by Tool
Also, Nina Hagen needs to do a video for her cover of Depeche Mode's "Personal Jesus", so it can be featured. Get on that, Nina. Thanks.
The new incarnation of Pop Up Video will also include a user-generated content element. For those not familiar with the format, Pop Up Video wasn't a dis program like Video on Trial- it highlighted interesting elements of music videos and the artists and filmmakers behind them. Look at the example below: you'll find yourself going, "Huh. No way. I had no idea." But yes way. Yes way. That's what makes Pop Up Video so cool.
